Our Impact

The Foundation is grateful to its global partners and funders for making our mission possible. Here are highlights of past programmatic outcomes.

  • Supported the creation of Ethiopia’s first cardiac surgical team — a multi-disciplinary team of 12 pediatric and adult surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and nurses.

Assisted with the data collection on rheumatic heart disease that catalyzed the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health to develop plans to integrate rheumatic heart disease prevention and treatment into the country’s health system.

  • Establishment of RHD Center in Ethiopia: Trained 75 nurses from school and various health institutions acute rheumatic fever and streptococcal pharyngitis. Trained 12 Physicians from remote regions on basic echocardiography to make RHD diagnosis early at their respective regions

  • Helped the nonprofit cardiac care center in Addis Ababa to run independently and sustainably, so the center can provide ongoing care to thousands who need it each year.

  • Encouraged health professionals who work with the Ethiopian government to reduce the prevalence of rheumatic heart disease by raising awareness and knowledge about treatment.

  • Provide ongoing mentorship and support for cardiac teams in Ethiopia and Tanzania

  • Provide support for the first prevalence study of Rheumatic Heart Disease in the Northern Zone in Tanzania. Over 1000 school aged children, and over 200 patients at KCMC have been screened for RHD.
